Tiny's Demolition and Recycling executed the phased demolition of the top nine stories of a thirteen-story concrete post-and-beam structure, including the roof-level doghouse, using a carefully sequenced top-down approach. Given the building's location near Music Row and the compromised condition of the existing concrete, precision and structural control were priorities from the first floor removed to the last.
Brokk demolition robots were deployed throughout the project for precise deconstruction, paired with a 20,000-pound-rated mast climber that provided vertical access between floors as work progressed downward. The building's elevator core was adapted into a debris chute, fitted with a custom-engineered deflector plate that channeled material directly into an on-site concrete crusher, allowing nearly 8,000 tons of aggregate to be recycled rather than hauled offsite. Comprehensive shoring and reshoring systems were engineered and installed to stabilize the structure as each of the nine floors was sequentially removed, while the building's three subterranean levels were carefully preserved for integration into the future structure.
The entire building was wrapped in scaffolding and protective netting to contain debris, and water suppression systems-controlled dust throughout demolition to meet OSHA and EPA standards. Carried out during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the project also required strict health protocols to keep crews safe without slowing progress.
Through advanced debris management, engineered structural stability, and precision robotic demolition, the project was completed efficiently and sustainably with minimal disruption to the surrounding urban corridor.
