Tiny's Demolition and Recycling completed the demolition of a multi-level detention facility and adjoining fire station in downtown Nashville, covering more than 106,000 square feet of building demolition and site work. The project called for a carefully sequenced approach given the scale and complexity of the two connected structures.
Work began with extensive interior soft demolition across both buildings, with crews stripping all finishes, mechanical systems, and non-load-bearing walls floor by floor.
Scissor lifts, compact loaders, and excavators were used in coordination to keep debris moving efficiently through each phase rather than letting material accumulate and slow production. To support LEED documentation requirements, the team installed an on-site truck scale, a process that involved excavation, grading, and crane placement of a five-piece scale system built specifically for tracking material weights throughout the job.
Recycling was a core focus from start to finish. Copper, aluminum, and stainless steel were hand-separated throughout the interior demolition phase to maximize material recovery, and concrete from the buildings and parking lot was crushed on site for reuse rather than hauled off as waste. By the project's completion, 98 percent of all materials generated on site had been recycled or diverted from landfills.
This project highlights Tiny's ability to manage sequenced, multi-structure demolitions in dense downtown environments while meeting strict sustainability and documentation standards, delivering measurable results without compromising pace or precision.
